Personal Profile
Lee Chun Yi originally majored in biochemistry but was introduced to art by his mentor, Liu Guosong, during an art class. Influenced by Liu, Li decided to explore new tools and methods for artistic creation.
Lee Chun Yi uses small cubes cut from cork as stamps and repeatedly applies ink to paper thousands of times, creating compositions of landscapes, flowers, and less commonly seen portraits.
Lee Chun Yi's pixelated paintings offer a multi-layered visual effect. From a distance, they appear as complete painted images, but up close, one can see the individual cubes, each with its unique characteristics.
By combining the wisdom of two major art traditions, Northern Wei stele calligraphy rubbings and Northern Song landscape painting, the artist successfully conveys an elegant aesthetic and his passion and appreciation for traditional Chinese art through a rational and carefully planned execution.
